The deep plane facelift is a cutting-edge cosmetic plastic surgery procedure that have become increasingly popular in recent years, and they are one of the most effective options for rejuvenating the appearance of the face and provide a more natural looking result without the scarring or irregularities associated with other types of facelifts procedures and techniques. The most important difference between a deep plane facelift and a traditional more superficial facelift is that the deep plane facelift lifts only the layer of muscle below the skin, leaving the skin attached to the layer of muscle. A deep plane facelift can be performed alone or in combination with enhancing procedures, such as a Neck Lift, Facial Fat Transfer, Eyelid Surgery or a Brow Lift to restore the natural beauty of your face.

Benefits of the deep plane facelift:
- Avoids the problem of the tight, overfilled look of many modern facelifts.
- Lifts the cheeks by releasing the tethering or tension points of the face in the deep plane.
- Corrects facial asymmetry and enhances facial contours, which both are the keys to making you look you.
- Avoids the addition of facial fillers, fat, or cheek implants to restore the youthful heart shape of the face.
- Restores much of the volume lost by gravity descent and aging under the lower eyelids, and improves the nasolabial folds that run from the nose to the corner of the mouth.
- Increases cheek volume to the equivalent of injecting three vials of filler or fat into the face, and it is permanent.
- Creates a smooth and crisp jawline appearance.
- Has minimal tissue trauma.
- Provides a much longer lasting result without the scarring or irregularities potentially seen with other face lifts.
- For the right candidates, Dr. Wu is also able to perform the deep plane facelift in the comfort of her office under local or IV sedatives, which can result in much quicker recovery.
By releasing all the tethering points and deep planes of the face and performing a comprehensive deep plane facelift release between the muscle layers, we are able to counteract the effects that gravity has incurred over the years. With the release of the deep planes of the face, we are able to reposition the muscles and fat tissue to a more youthful position, which in turn gives the face a lifted, rejuvenated appearance. In addition, since this technique involves release and repositioning as opposed to the suture pull typically used in the majority of other face lift procedures, there are no opposing tension forces. As a result, patients can enjoy a much longer lasting result without having to worry about their facelift wearing down over time.
A facelift may be the most intimate procedure you will ever consider because your face represents you to the world. It is crucial that you still look like yourself after a facelift surgery because it is an important aspect of your identity. Dr. Wu understands and utilizes safe and modern techniques to preserve all your unique and defining facial features.

HOW IS A DEEP PLANE FACELIFT DONE UNDER LOCAL ANESTHESIA
Dr. Wu will prescribe an oral anti-anxiety medication for you to take the morning of surgery should you feel nervous. Once you begin experiencing the calming effect, your face skin will be numbed using local anesthesia to keep you comfortable. After your skin is numb you will not feel any pain. In fact, most patients fall asleep during the procedure as it can even be quite a pleasant and relaxing experience.
If you are interested in getting your facial rejuvenation procedures done under local anesthesia, make sure you mention it on the day of your consultation to see if it is the right choice for you!

Do I need facial fat transfer?
Facial fat transfer is a modern facial rejuvenation technique that has dramatically improved facelift results. This is important because we lose youthful volume in our face that is vital to supporting our facial muscles and skin. Loss of volume leads to hollowing around the eyes, sunken cheeks, temples, and straining of the chin and mouth which can make us appear older and even tired or angry when you’re not.
A facelift can reposition tissues and remove excess skin but it cannot restore volume. This is where fat transfer provides the benefit of volume restoration, the icing on the cake for your final facelift results.
For the fat transfer procedure, your live fat cells are gently collected from a part of your body with excess fat, such as the abdomen, and transferred strategically to enhance your facial contour. The fat cells will then become live fat cells that restore the youthful volume to your face.
What’s the facelift recovery like?
The first night after surgery you will stay in our on-site recovery suite with a caregiver by your side at all times to make sure all your post-operative needs are comfortably met. You will have a dressings around your head and you may have drains that your caregiver will manage for you overnight. You can minimize discomfort and pain using oral medications.
The next morning, Dr. Wu will visit you in your recovery suite to remove your dressings and check your surgery sites to ensure that you have a smooth recovery. The surgical sutures will be removed after 5-7 days, and the subsequent bruising and swelling will gradually dissipate within 2 to 4 weeks.
Most patients feel comfortable going out in public without facial covering and minimal makeup after 2 weeks.

Facelift results can last 10 years or longer. Of course over time our skin and tissues continue to age, therefore a touch up may be considered down the road if desired.
Facial fat transfer serves as the foundation for many facial rejuvenation procedures. Beauties showing early signs of aging caused by volume loss without excess skin will see the best results using facial fat transfer alone without the need for any incisions. The transferred fat cells restore the lost volume and creates a youthful glow, much like injectable fillers. But unlike fillers, results are soft and long lasting.
For beauties with advanced signs of facial aging who desire comprehensive correction, a full face and neck lift combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures is the choice for maximal results. Advanced signs of aging include general loss of facial volume and skin elasticity, droopy brows, saggy eyelids, droopy and hollow cheeks, deep folds around the mouth, downturned lips, sagging jowls, neck bands and loose skin. Incisions begin in front of the ears sweeping around the ear lobes and into the hairline. This process provides the most dramatic rejuvenation and lift for beauties with severe facial aging.
Depending on your individual goals, other procedures can be combined with a facelift for optimal and balanced facial rejuvenation. These procedures include neck lift, brow lift, eyelid lift, lip lift, and almost a must, facial fat transfer. An in-person consultation with Dr. Wu is the best way to discuss the most effective and personalized solution for you.
