What is a tummy tuck?
A tummy tuck, technically called an abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that helps you achieve a firm, toned, and youthful abdomen. During your tummy tuck surgery, Dr. Wu removes excess fat cells and skin tissues and tightens the weakened abdominal muscles. A tummy tuck can help remove the effects of weight fluctuations, age, pregnancy, and prior surgeries by tightening and toning your abdomen.
Mini Tummy Tuck
This beauty has done her part in keeping healthy and fit. However there are aftereffects of pregnancies and weight changes that cannot be reversed without surgical intervention. A mini tummy tuck along with waist defining liposuction contouring restores her natural feminine curves without an artificially flat appearance.
Full Tummy Tuck
This beauty experienced changes in her abdomen after pregnancy that never recovered despite exercise and non-invasive treatments. A full tummy tuck along with waist defining liposuction contouring was performed to restore her athletic abdominal tone.
At 2 months post-op, swelling will continue to decrease particularly in the lower abdomen and belly button. Incisions are thin and will continue to fade over a year.
You’re an ideal candidate for a tummy tuck if you:
- Are in generally good physical and mental health.
- Don’t have underlying medical conditions that prevent optimal wound healing or recovery.
- Don’t smoke or are willing to stop smoking several months before and after the surgery.
- Have realistic expectations from the tummy tuck.
- Are within 10-20 pounds of your ideal body weight.
- Don’t anticipate future pregnancies or weight fluctuations.
Please note that a tummy tuck is a body contouring procedure, not a weight loss procedure. This procedure isn’t a substitute for weight loss if you’re overweight or obese. Furthermore, while this procedure may remove some of the stretch marks from the lower abdomen, it won’t correct all your stretch marks.
Dr. Chaowen Wu will examine your abdomen, review your medical history, and discuss your unique cosmetic goals to determine if you’re a suitable candidate for a tummy tuck. Each tummy tuck procedure is curated according to your specific goals to ensure optimal results inspired by your own body.
What happens during the tummy tuck procedure?
A tummy tuck is performed under general anesthesia in our state-of-the-art surgical center. Dr. Wu will make a horizontal incision extremely low on your abdomen so that the scar can be hidden with a bikini. The shape and size of the incision depend on your specific goals and the amount of excess skin you have.
For a full tummy tuck, Dr. Wu will also make another incision around the navel in order to improve bulging or skin excess in the upper abdomen and refresh the belly button. The specific techniques involved differ from one patient to another. In most cases, Dr. Wu may also perform muscle repair and liposuction to further contour your waistline.
In the case of a mini tummy tuck for individuals without excess skin above the belly button, you maintain your natural belly button while only the excess skin is removed.
What is the recovery process like after a tummy tuck?
After a tummy tuck you will be placed into a light stage 1 compression garment for the first week. Once your swelling begins to improve, you will be transitioned into a stage 2 garment to begin shaping your abdomen and waistline.
You should take 1 to 2 weeks off work to recover comfortably, and you should avoid strenuous workouts for at least 6 weeks. Dr. Wu will provide a list of post-treatment recovery guidelines to ensure a smooth and safe recovery process.
Although your incisions will be healed quickly, the final results from your tummy tuck will not be apparent until 3-6 months after surgery. Some individuals may still experience swelling on and off for a year.

“Absolutely amazing experience with Doctor Wu! I had a mini tummy tuck and I feel absolutely amazing. The recovery was a breeze, my scar is not much bigger than my C-section scar and it’s excellent! I have my pre-mommy body back. From beginning to present my experience was outstanding. I felt so attended to and heard. I met with several other surgeons prior to finding Dr. Wu and they definitely did not hear me or listen to what I wanted. I feel so safe around Dr. Wu, she is very kind and compassionate. I am so grateful for her and her amazing staff. Thank you so much for taking care of me and finding the me that was in there all along ♥️♥️”Olivia Garza

“Dr Wu and her staff are amazing. I feel blessed to have found her. From the moment I arrived for the initial consultation I knew I was in good hands and had found the best surgeon for my tummy tuck. Dr. Wu, Joanna at the front office and nurse Kara and the Lady nurse I don't recall her name are simply the best; they really care for a patient's well being and comfort at all times. I am now 3 weeks post surgery and feel great, never felt better and I thank Dr Wu for God has blessed her magical hands to help me feel better than ever. I had no bruises and no pain, little discomfort for the first 3 days which is absolutely natural after the procedure but my experience was amazing.”Doris D
